Practice brings together Robert Moutrey’s ongoing studio-based learning experiences, from weekly life drawing and figure painting sessions to longer retreat-based study. It is a place for sustained looking, regular making, and the shared discipline of developing your eye, hand, and understanding over time.
Life Drawing brings together Robert Moutrey’s weekly sessions focused on close looking, structure, proportion, and the human form. These Tuesday evening sessions offer a regular space to draw from life, develop observational skill, and build confidence through sustained practice.
Figure Painting is a studio-based practice centred on painting from life through longer, more sustained sessions. Held on Thursday and Friday evenings, with extended sessions on Saturday mornings, these classes are designed for painters who want time to observe carefully, work with intention, and deepen their understanding of the painted figure.
Painting Retreats offer immersive periods of shared practice away from daily routines. Set in carefully chosen locations, these retreats balance structured studio sessions with independent working time and rest.
The retreats are not workshops or intensives. There is no formal teaching. Instead, they create the conditions for sustained attention: time, space, good light, and the company of others committed to working seriously.
Each retreat is intentionally limited in size, allowing for focus, continuity, and a considered pace.
