Studio Guidelines

The Studio Conditions were last updated on 20th January 2026

By booking a place, you agree to these Studio Guidelines. They exist to protect the model, fellow attendees, and the integrity of the studio practice.

  1. Nature of the sessions

    1. These sessions are structured studio practice, not teaching or tuition.
    2. The organiser/facilitator holds the room, timekeeping, and pose structure, but does not provide instruction, demonstrations, or critique.
    3. Bookings are sold as consecutive blocks. A block cannot be split, rescheduled, transferred, or shared between people.
  2. Conduct and respect

    1. This is a professional working environment. A calm, respectful atmosphere is expected at all times.
    2. Harassment, sexualised remarks, discriminatory language, intimidation, unwanted attention, disruptive behaviour, or boundary-crossing will not be tolerated.
    3. If behaviour compromises safety, privacy, or focus, the organiser may refuse entry or ask a participant to leave. No refund will be issued where removal is due to misconduct.
  3. Privacy, photography, filming, and recording

    1. No photography, video, livestreaming, or audio recording is permitted by attendees at any time (including breaks).
    2. Phones must be silent and out of sight during posing.
    3. The organiser may take occasional photos of the room only when the model is not present and not identifiable, for documentation or marketing. If you do not wish to appear in such images, you can opt out by notifying the organiser in writing.
  4. Models, posing, and boundaries

    1. Poses are proposed and agreed between the organiser and the model.
    2. Adjustments may be made during the session, only with the model’s consent.
    3. No touching of the model is permitted under any circumstances.
    4. Do not request poses, changes, or adjustments directly from the model. Any practical requests must go through the organiser.
    5. Please do not engage the model in conversation while they are posing unless invited by the organiser/model.
    6. Nude sessions (where advertised)
    7. Nude sessions are clearly labelled. By booking, you confirm you are a consenting adult (18+) and understand that a nude model may be present for life-drawing/painting purposes.
    8. Any sexualised behaviour, comments, or “erotic” direction is not acceptable in this studio environment.
  5. Timekeeping and attendance

    1. Sessions start promptly at the advertised time. Late arrival may mean you miss poses and/or disturb the room.
    2. Missed sessions within a block cannot be refunded, credited, or carried forward, regardless of reason.
    3. If a session is cancelled by the organiser, a replacement session or credit will be offered where reasonably possible (or a pro-rata refund if neither is feasible).
  6. Materials, equipment, and studio care

    1. Each attendee is provided with one easel and access to shared studio furniture/posing equipment as arranged.
    2. Attendees must bring their own materials and consumables, including (but not limited to): paper/canvas, paints, charcoal/pencils, brushes, palettes, rags, solvents/mediums, and any specialist tools.
    3. Painting and solvent use

      1. Oil painting is permitted only in sessions where it is advertised.
      2. Solvents must be used responsibly and sparingly. Keep containers sealed when not in use.
      3. No spraying (fixative, paint, varnish, aerosols) inside the studio. If you need fixative, speak to the organiser about an outdoor option.
      4. Oily rags/paper towels should be stored safely (e.g., sealed container/bag) and taken home for proper disposal.
    4. Space, set-up, and pack-down

      1. The studio is shared with limited space. Do not bring setups that block circulation (e.g., very large floor rigs) without prior agreement.
      2. Work within your allocated footprint and pack down promptly at the end of the session.
    5. Cleanliness and damage

      1. Keep your area reasonably tidy. Take all waste and personal items with you.
      2. Spills or damage must be reported promptly. The organiser may request a contribution to cleaning/repair where damage results from misuse or negligence.
    6. Wet work and storage

      1. Temporary resting space for wet work may be available, but storage is not guaranteed.
      2. Any work left on site is left entirely at your own risk. The organiser accepts no responsibility for loss, damage, or deterioration.
  7. Studio access and safety

    1. The studio is in an older industrial building accessed via stairs and is not wheelchair accessible.
    2. For privacy and safeguarding, the studio is for booked participants only: no guests, visitors, or children.
    3. Work safely and be mindful of trip hazards, liquids, solvents, and shared walkways. Follow any safety instructions given on the day.
  8. Changes to sessions

    1. The organiser may make reasonable changes to scheduling, models, or session structure where necessary (e.g., illness, emergencies, safeguarding, or operational needs).
  9. Agreement at checkout

    1. By ticking the box at checkout, you confirm that:
    2. You have read and understood these Studio Guidelines.
    3. You accept expectations around conduct, privacy, and block commitment.
    4. Where a nude session is advertised, you confirm you are 18+ and consent to the presence of a nude model for artist purposes.
    5. You agree to participate in good faith and contribute to a focused, respectful studio environment.
