Commissioning A Portrait
Portrait Commissions
Each portrait commission is structured to suit the subject, the intended setting, and the level of compositional development required for the work to endure.
Portraiture at this level is not approached through a fixed formula. Some works require a concentrated sitting and minimal preparatory work; others demand extended observation, design studies, and careful structural planning. The appropriate format is determined by scale, complexity, and the weight the finished portrait is intended to carry.
Time, Development & Scale
The four portrait bands reflect increasing levels of:
Time invested
Preparatory and structural development
Compositional complexity
Overall scale and visual presence
Each format exists to ensure the structure of the commission supports the strength of the finished work.
If you are unsure which format is appropriate, this can be discussed during the initial exchange.
