A portrait pricing guide:
I offer three tiers of pricing for portraits, each designed to cater to different needs and budgets:
Tier 1: ‘The Time Capsule’
A cherished gift for family & loved ones, perfect for those new to portraiture. These paintings feature a single person, often from the shoulders up, with a freer expressive style, distilled design, and simple, elegant background. Sizes range from approximately 3”x3” to 20”x16”. Prices range from £300 to £1000.
Tier 2: ‘The Heirloom’
An heirloom to be passed down through generations. These portraits depict a single person from the waist up, with the option to add several other people or a more detailed background/setting. Sizes range from approximately 24”x20” to 36”x28”. Prices range from £1000 to £4000.
Tier 3: ‘The Legacy’
A statement piece for your home or workplace, this tier offers large-scale paintings of one person up to a whole family, often including a more detailed background/setting. Sizes range from 44”x34” to 56”x48”. Prices range from £4000 to £8000.

Factors Influencing the Cost of a Portrait Several factors determine the cost of a new portrait project, which I call the four ‘S’s:
- Support: What is the Support (panel or canvas)?
- Subjects: How many Subjects feature in the portrait (one sitter, two or more)?
- Size: What Size would you like the portrait to be?
- Source Material: What is the Source Material (primary or secondary photos or from life)?
Additionally, consider the time frame (how quickly you need the portrait completed), framing requirements, and delivery details.
